City of Bradenton Beach

Welcome to the Project & Program Management Department

Proposed Projects

Herb Dolan Park Project
Last Update: Apr 14, 2010

The City of Bradenton Beach is proud to partner with the Sarasota Bay Estuary Program (SBEP) in this endeavor, which is generaously funded via NOAA and the federal Fish & Wildlife Commission.

Facilitated by Scheda Ecological Associates and Lynn Townsend & Associates, with oversight by Jay Leverone, Senior Scientist at SBEP, the project contains elements relating to: recreational boating, public access, stormwater management, shoreline restoration and stabilization, habitat creation, exotic species remoival, parking control and low-impact development.

After removing thousands of pounds of concrete rubble from the shoreline, a graded, naturally-sloping kayak/canoe launch will be built.  Almost 200 feet of geoweb will be laid to hold thousands of cord grass plants which will eventually take root and stabilize the shoreline.  Existing mangroves will migrate into bare areas and the shoreline may actually increase over time.  An old, single Australian Pine tree (exotic, invasive) will be removed and replaced with a native shade tree such as a Jamaican Dogwood.  Bioswales will be developed as parking control features.
